Dear America...
...this time, please? On behalf of the rest of the civilised world, who aren't particularly fond of war, suffering, a global climate of fear and sinking to the level of our enemies in order to try (and fail) to supress them?

Boso / Website (7.11.06 15:51) The REpublicians are going to get stuffed methinks... |
amillionpieces / Website (7.11.06 15:54) Oh, I do hope so, it's a shame it's only a mid-term, but still, losing one or both houses should at least hamper Bush somewhat! |
tomatopuree / Website (7.11.06 16:01) AMP, you are cordially invited to the "Me-Me" on my blog. Cheers tp |
Huw (7.11.06 16:13) Oh dear. This is one of those posts where you need to know something about politics, isn't it...? |
amillionpieces / Website (7.11.06 16:26) Huw, not so much, just equate Republicans with George Bush and Guantanamo and then suddenly you don't really care what the democrats are
Huw (7.11.06 16:57) Do we think the Democrats will be any better?! |
doctortripswitch / Website (7.11.06 17:16) Of course the Democrats are better. They've got Josh Lyman, Toby Ziegler, CJ Cregg, Sam Seabourne and, of course, Jed Bartlett. |
petescully / Website (7.11.06 17:17) it will be better because the administraitors won't have the support of the senate to get away with shredding the constitution as they have been. i doubt it'll be much better, but it'll be a little better, and that's something. i just wish so much money hadn't been spent on political campaigning over here. what a total waste of money. what an utter disgusting waste. when it could be so better spent, on tackling poverty, starting a national health service, finding ways to reduce emissions; however, whoever gets in, that is one thing that will not change. the parties will still spend what it takes in order to cling onto or grasp hold of power. |
amillionpieces / Website (7.11.06 17:18) Yeah, I think so, Clinton was a democrat, and I thought he did a pretty good job. They're less reactionary so hopefully better for the rest of the world, and have more progressive views on climate change. |
amillionpieces / Website (7.11.06 17:25) Doc, yeah, and they always do the right thing! Pete, yeah, a country should always have a strong opposition to whoever is in power, having poor opposition has done neither the US or the UK any good. I have to say, a lot of the campaigning over there has appeared absolutely shameless. Total waste of money, very good point. |
menace / Website (7.11.06 18:42) Err - is that a donkey? Wot? |
amillionpieces / Website (7.11.06 18:49) Yeah, American political symbols are lost on me, but backing the donkeys seems to be a good idea. Its the democrat logo, for some reason. |
menace / Website (7.11.06 20:06) Is it something to do with being taken for a ride? |
amillionpieces / Website (7.11.06 23:09) That would make sense, at the moment we're all being taken for an elephant ride... |
petescully / Website (8.11.06 00:44) you can be taken for a ride on an elephant too though, and that's the GOP's symbol; maybe it's cos rich people can ride on them, while poor people ride on donkeys, i dunno |
Valerie / Website (8.11.06 03:44) il faut positiver! |
menace / Website (8.11.06 05:30) In every way, now I think of it, the elephant is superior to the donkey. It is stronger, smarter, more graceful, and has a much longer gestation period. Personally I would rather ride on an elephant than a donkey; although I must mention that I have experience of the latter, and none of the former. All of this said, I don't really give a bollock what happens in these mid-term elections. Every president is a dud in the last two years of his second term, and for god's sake, when did the Brits start worrying about the U.S. midterms? Can you imagine the yanks caring about the yewkay locals?! |
link2u / Website (8.11.06 07:50) http://20six.co.uk/link2u/ is me, I world like to make friends with you. |
Sunshinechick / Website (8.11.06 10:45) woooooow Peeej you have gone over to the dark side. . . . . Hello! |
amillionpieces / Website (8.11.06 11:55) Menace, I wouldn't care, but as it seems our Foreign Policy is ran by the white house, and anything that hampers Bush even more is surely a good think! link2u. Really? friends? Well thanks for the link, I'll remember to check your blog regularly, of course if I don't see any evidence that it's a genuine blog I *may* have to hit the delete button... Chick! Good to see ya! |
Laurie / Website (8.11.06 13:21) Does it make me a bad citizan not to want to vote in my own elections? If both canadates are evil, aren't I only making matters worse by participating in this silly little game? Seriously, enough with this two parties only nonsense. Very few people are actually that extreme anyway. What we need is a third party, with the tolerance of the Democrats but with a few basic morals. Let us call them: "Replubicrats". No? Demicans anybody? (As it happens, I'm also too lazy to change my driver's license after I married and they won't count my mail-in ballot as valid.) |
amillionpieces / Website (8.11.06 13:32) Laurie, you see, if I had a vote, I would have probably used it to make you a write-in candidate I generally think, if it's a choice of bad and bad, then ruining the ballot paper is a very nice third way
(8.11.06 16:17) hi pete I have a message for you YOU SMELL |
Sunshinechick / Website (8.11.06 16:20) But what does he smell of?.. I am thinking chocolate as he eats so much..... it ooozzzzes outta his skin.. like curry |

amillionpieces / Website (8.11.06 23:36) Dear smell person, who are you and why do you know about my curry habit? Pete, good news! :D |
subspace / Website (9.11.06 09:17) ah, i knew i could count on your blog for some political commentary on the elections! personally i voted for Darth Vader, Bush is far too much of a wimp! we need huge ass starships and a death star to truly take over this planet! bah! i dont mind living off bread and water and no sleep to make them! oh okay you got me, its not the presidential election yet, so i only really voted for Palpatine! we wont even gave elections if he gets in! muhahahaaa! seriously though, it looks like the change the whole world has wanted is here, so lets hope it all works out. dont think dems cant screw things up either! and you guys are so right about the campaigns, the money and cheaps, such a shame, but the real shame is that is the only known way to get the attention of the american voter. and the donkey and elephant thing, thats cuz theyre all old farts! maybe they should let the younger gen pick some new party symbols! how about an iron fist for the GOP and flowers for the dems lol? |
(9.11.06 09:28) everyone knows, wes smells it innit |
amillionpieces / Website (9.11.06 12:33) Haha, I like the iron fist and flower thing, Sub! And voting for Darth Vader is great, no one will mess with an army of light sabres. ANON, yes, of course, it's common knowledge, I was more interested in your identity, hiding behind anonymity to avoid any riposte is so 2004... |
(9.11.06 13:42) whats a riposte when you're talkin to a layman? |
amillionpieces / Website (9.11.06 13:47) If I were convinced you were a layman, I may even inform you, but I'm not even convinced that's your gender... |
(9.11.06 14:09) I am sam. |
(9.11.06 14:14) excuse me i wait for comment give them me |
(9.11.06 14:14) innit |
amillionpieces / Website (9.11.06 14:24) No you're not. Maybe one of the voices in your head is though... |

amillionpieces / Website (9.11.06 14:35) Valentia, I'd be shocked if the feeling wasn't mutual... |
valentia / Website (9.11.06 14:46) sam sam come out to plaaaaaaaay |
Chintzy / Website (9.11.06 21:15) Hello! I see you have some nutter on your blog. Congratulations! I am pleased. And that's it really. Though I think either a donkey or elephant could do a better job than Bush anyway. |
(10.11.06 11:45) i like nuts. |
amillionpieces / Website (10.11.06 13:19) Chintzy, oh yes, I think you're right, either. Sham, this could explain a lot... |
valentia / Website (10.11.06 14:48) they like nuts, does that mean it's a girl? HAR HAR HAR |
amillionpieces / Website (10.11.06 15:24) Bom-bom-tish! |
petescully / Website (11.11.06 08:38) Responding to the earlier reference that no-one would mess with an army of lightsabres...well, darth vader did actually, when he wiped out the jedi single-mechanical-handedly. he prefers just the one lightsabre and a shitload of stormtroopers with blasters. i would vote for him, except i don't know if i agree with his issues on separation of Force and State. |
amillionpieces / Website (12.11.06 23:09) Pete, yeah, I just hate that he always has to go back to the force, they need a clear dividing line! (I have no idea what I just said, I never seen it!) |

Janine C (3.12.06 10:00) The Democrats care NOTHING for the safety of America--they only want power...just look at their recent turn-around regarding Iraq after winning the elections. Face it, most folks only listen to the same old propaganda from the left and believe it as if it were gospel. Most of what you hear and see in the main-stream media are lies or half-truths (meant to mislead the public). If you believe there is some dark conspiracy out there, then you should be looking at those who pretend they are your friend but really just want to control you--like the big-government loving Democrats who would rather make citizens dependent upon them than give them a fair opportunity to make a better life. It makes me sick to see so many people who are so ignorant today. Most have not learned from history...most do not know who are in positions of power (elected or appointed) and most just believe anything they see on TV (whether presented in context or not). It is sad because it will be our own undoing. As they say...a little knowledge is very dangerous. Oh...by the way...there are many more rich Democrats than Republicans. And don't forget that the Republican party was the one that freed the slaves and worked more toward racial equality than the Dems (who still have KKK members). Most of those Southern Democrats did everything they could to defeat the Civil Rights Act. |
amillionpieces / Website (3.12.06 16:00) Hi Janine, Thanks very much for your comment. I'm glad to see a bit of political debate, and so I will address your points below, but firstly I'd like to point out that my blog didn't attack every Republican, it merely expressed the thought that the world would be better off with more Democrats in power, the first thing your comment does it tar all democrats with the same brush, this is silly in any country, its party politics and it's not fair. There are morons in both parties, and good people in both parties. As it happens one of my favourite American politicians is a Republican, but that's not going to get in the way of me thinking he is a good man, or make me condemn him as the same as other, less favoured Republicans. Neither would it stop me hoping he would become president if he ran, I believe the best man for the job should do it, regardless of party. 1) "The Democrats care NOTHING for the safety of America" Spurious statement. Of course they do, do they want to die? No. They just have a different view on how said safety should be secured and defended. Different views are good, they allow us rational debate on how situations should be dealt with. 2) "they only want power" - Yes, you're right. Of course they want power, isn't that the whole aim of politics, to get into power? The Republicans are the same, as are Conservatives and Labour here, everyone wants power to pursue their agenda, that is what happens in politics and its up to us, the electorate to decide whose Agenda best serves the good of the country, or as is also often the case, best serves our own needs. |
amillionpieces / Website (3.12.06 16:01) 3) "Most of what you hear and see in the main-stream media are lies or half-truths" - Again, I agree. Take for instance the lie that Sadaam was connected to Al-Quaeda, or the Lie that Sadaam had WMD, or the lie that Sadaam could launch said WMD at western nations in 45 minutes. We could look at the lie that we do the best we can to preserve civilian life while simoultaneously dropping cluster bombs that kill indiscriminatley. We could look at a lot of lies and half truths, yes, but I think if politicians want to throw stones on that subject, they must first check they are not sat in glass houses. 4) "Most have not learned from history..." - I'd say the US led invasion of a independant country was an example of this. Did Vietnam teach people nothing? Did the fact that every time we get mixed up in the middle east things go badly, badly wrong not show anything? Likewise, why do we do next to nothing for Darfur? Have we not learned from Rwanda? Truth is, learning from the past is nothing to do with which party has your political alegiance, it's about being educated to it and having a social conscience. 5) "who still have KKK members" - The crime here is not that Democrats are members, as I am sure Republicans are too, the crime here is that the organisation still exists at all. You can't imply that they're all racist because of a few bad eggs, esspecially not as they're quite happy to run black candidates. |
amillionpieces / Website (3.12.06 16:01) 6) "there are many more rich Democrats than Republicans" - There were many more rich Jews than Nazi's. Doesn't mean the Nazi's were right. There were many more rich Kulaks than Blosheviks. Likewise. Wealth can not be used as a moral compass for the nation. 7) "And don't forget that the Republican party was the one that freed the slaves" - What do they want, cookies? The republican party didn't even exist when my country abolished slavery and the slave trade. We can't cite the deeds of good people in the past as a reason to vote for people now who are connected only by party name. Winston Churchill defied the might of Nazi Germany even when the war cabinet was ready to call it a day, that doesn't mean everyone should vote for Conservatives for the rest of forever because he was a good chap. |
