Blog Nostalgia Meme...
1.Can you remember without looking what your first post was about? My first blog post was about Pizza of the Hawaiian variety, I think. I maintain that it's a perfectly valid type of pizza and any nay sayers can go blog their moans elsewhere. :P 2. Where did you write it? I wrote it perched on the end of my bed. It's where I write most of my blogs because I'm a very lazy person - although that first year I wrote a lot from university too, somehow without getting caught by tutors! 3. Which was the first blog you read? The first blog I read overall was cre8d, it was the one that got me started blogging. My first regular read here on 20six was Laurieloo, although quite a lot of others followed over the first few days. 4. Who did/do you tell about your blog if anyone? No one! This was 2003 and mentioning you had a blog produced the inevitable question "what is a blog?" then funny looks when you try to explain, followed by people shaking their heads at the crazy idea that would never catch on. Now everyone blogs. Though I still keep my blog anonymous as I've been at it so long it'd feel like Bruce Wayne announcing to Gotham his real identity, or something. Everyone would gasp and feel betrayed. 5. Has your blog ever caused a scandal? Mine hasn't, that I know of. All very boring, I'm afraid. Although in the halcyon days of 20six I'd occasionally blog things to set the cat amongst the proverbial pigeons. 6. Tell us something random which happened as a reslt of blogging? I got a phone call from a whole crowd of people in a bar in London, the phone was passed around a whole lot of people I'd never spoken to before, yet knew really, really well and vice versa. It was most amusing, esp. trying to keep up with who I was talking to and figure out why oink was randomly talking about nuts. 7. Snog, Marry or Avoid - pick another blogger for each. I can't believe this question. What kind of sick pervert came up with it? Oh, right. I see. I'm going to snog Pinky and Tan. Because Tan made the meme with me and Pinky was the first to do it. According to rumour I'm already married to FloatyKatja. I'm avoiding moirob, mainly because I included pinky in the first part of this answer. 8. What's your most amusing blog memory? To many to name. One that was quite amusing was a couple of summers ago, I didn't know firstbornunicorn very well at the time but she had a boyfriend who lived near me and had blogged about him, so we agreed to synchronise our blogging certain things to lead another blogger up the garden path. It was great fun because it was very subtle, just mentioning the odd thing at the right time, enough for casual readers not to notice but it had the desired effect. Another would be Blog Brother which JoJo ran and was a great laugh! |

Oink (27.6.08 13:33) I'll chuck em here: Blog Nostalgia Meme... 1.Can you remember without looking what your first post was about? My first post on my original blog, yes I can. Back then I wasn’t such a refined blogger so I don’t think I’ll say. It’s gone now. 2. Where did you write it? That would be at the desk. It involved a drawing in Paint. 3. Which was the first blog you read? I don’t know. BBN was one of the very first. Oh actually I do know. There were a handful of us who came over from the Guardian talk rooms and so the first blog I would have read would have been gingerbadger’s, XuXu’s or that other nice lad who I can’t remember the name of anymore – actually I can.. Lex. 4. Who did/do you tell about your blog if anyone? Big Boy. Who encouraged me to get one in the first place as it was the next big thing. It was years before I told anyone else. The next person was Jane, and the next people after that were J and R who asked me ten minutes before a blogger party how I knew all of the people they were about to meet…
5. Has your blog ever caused a scandal? Has any blog ever caused a scandal? 6. Tell us something random which happened as a result of blogging? Lurking around London Bridge tube station trying to work out which bench BBN’s message was stuck under without drawing attention to myself. And lurking around Leicester Square trying to blu-tack my own message for BBN to the underside of a bench without drawing attention to myself. On neither occasion did I get arrested. 7. Snog, Marry or Avoid - pick another blogger for each. David Tennant doesn’t blog Neither does Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall Or for that matter Boris the Jackal Johnson. 8. What's your most amusing blog memory? See answer to question 6. |

Oink (27.6.08 13:48) Ps - can I say that those nuts were very expensive. Very expensive. I almost had to sell a lung to get them. |

petescully / Website (28.6.08 08:20) I'll give it a go. 1: golf, i think. 2: hornsey lane while wife watched golf (i was banished across room for making too many silly jokes based on golfers' names) 3: the vessel (20six.co.uk/thevessel), who took photos of the shadows on his dining room wall (he's also the singer in my favourite band) 4: i dunno. 5: not much 6: no. it has caused a sandal and a candle, but not a scandal. 7: what? 8: not really a memory as i can't remember it, but getting in from the pub drunk and blogging is always a laugh, reading other blogs and making comments you don't remember (always positive comments, of course) but have fun discovering later |
|
Mikeachim / Website (28.6.08 11:41) I take it your No. 6 was Blinks, Mr. Pieces? Been a while since we had one of them. Of course, what would be *really* fun would be to have a Northern Blinks (Ninks?), to mop up those of us who didn't/couldn't make it down to London for the previous knees-ups......? |
|
Bun / Website (28.6.08 14:41) Mind if I answer it here? 1. I first started blogging in 2003 on 20six, shortly before yourself I believe. I forget the first post, was something silly like "isn't this fun" and I had a pretty ridiculous blog name back then (some say I still do though I'm now on my 3rd blog!) 2. At my desk at work I wrote the first post. 3. I forget offhand whose blog I read first; someone at 20six though, maybe that girl who was running the show back then who was pregnant. 4. One person only, Hen, who you also know. She is still the only 'IRL' person who knows about the blog as it's a private cathartic release, really. 5. Scandal? I don't think so. I started getting bitchy anonymous comments on the last blog, which precipitated my move to a totally anonymous blog (i.e. no more personal photos of me). 6. Random? I met someone once in person, like a date, but that wasn't great. Was someone else from 20six. He was a bit weird. I've met (online) some nice people from my last and current blog, though, from all over the world. 7. Snog marry or avoid?? Not really met anyone I would snog from blogging. Had I been str8, Hen might have been a good match on the marriage front (though she herself is married!). Avoid? Oh, anonymous trolls. I had one recently but that was pretty benign. 8. Not sure if it was amusing but my last wordpress.com blog got a LOT of traffic, mostly because of the TV reviews I was doing at the time. I was linked from the Guardian blog, from the BBC2 and BBC4 homepages (under TV) and also Channel4. Being self hosted these days I don't get picked up much in search queries which is fine as I don't seek the attention. Nor do I do reviews these days either. |

amillionpieces / Website (28.6.08 18:20) Pete - I can't remember the vessel, lol, there was lots of creative blogs tho, wasn't there? I love reading old comments threads in peoples archives. Mike - yes indeedy, it was the blinks after the changeover - tho I've been handed around once or twice since. Ninks is a very good idea, for those who don't hide behind an invisibility cloak
Bun - It quite possibly was JoJo! She was excellent at her job, used to greet all the newbies personally. Far better than I am at it. Good call on avoiding anon. commentators if you ignore them they get bored and go away. |
|
IanB / Website (28.6.08 19:32) Heh, this meme has dug up several refugees from 20six! The platform change was sad in a way because so many people got fed up and went their own separate ways and it was the community spirit that really scored 20six so highly. I remember JoJo - she's still knocking around doing her journo stuff but I can't believe I'd forgotten about the excellent 'boon. Do you remember when he posted that picture of a Roman chariot in the reception of his workplace? Something to do with a film he was working on. The most bizarre day was when "a close relative" and I confessed to each other that we blogged - and it was on 20six. :-) She does it anonymously elsewhere now so I'll avoid saying more than that but it was a bit surreal to have real-world conversations with them about virtual friends we both shared! |
|
amillionpieces / Website (29.6.08 13:12) Ian. I agree totally - it's the people that make a place and it's not the same without all of those people. It's the one thing management always underestimate the importance of. I don't remember the chariot but I do remember he was working on Troy at one point so maybe it was the same time! That would be really strange with the close relative thing! I don't think I know any other '6ers in the real world, it would make for an odd convo! |
|
