Sketch...
It's been a long time since I posted any illustrations - I haven't stopped doing them on the computer altogether, but have been trying to sketch using pencil and paper a bit instead. I'm not very artistic, but I'm making a little progress over the dozen or so I've done in my pad. Anyway, this is based on the Opera Singer, Anna Netrebko. The nose is wrong, I still find noses really challenging, and shading faces aswell, but it's a lot more enjoyable to sketch than it is to work on a computer, so any advice or criticism from you arty ones would be appreciated.

cha0tic / Website (2.10.07 04:40) Try drawing Tycho Brahe. He didn't have a nose  Well he did, but it was made of Gold. Just pretend it's first thing in the morning & he's not put it on yet

fabulous / Website (2.10.07 11:18) Portraits are always hard. But i think that the life likeness comes from the eyes. Practic just drawing eyes. Also when i first started doing faces i did things like just using shading to bring up the face shape or doing the whole picture in dots. Like the darker and more closer the dots the more shading you get. |

Fab, thanks for the advice, I'll have to try the dots thing although it sounds really hard! Huw, you mean there are other reasons than the obvious? Next you'll be telling me she can sing or something! (actually I listened a bit, and she does seem to have an amazing - and very powerful, voice!)
